Admission Procedure

 

When does the admission procedure start?

The admission process & registration for 2025 has started on our website from 16th August 2024. All admission updates are available on our website from time to time.

When is the entrance test for Admissions 2025?

The Symbiosis Entrance Exam for Design (SEED) for Admissions 2025 is scheduled online. All details of the admission process are available on http://sid.edu.in/index.php/programmes/admission-process

Is SEED exam compulsory for Admission to B. Des Programme?

Yes. SEED is compulsory followed by Portfolio Review and Personal Interaction.

What is the fee for the SID Admission Process registration?

The registration fee is Rs. 3250/- (Rs. 2250/- for SEED & Rs. 1000/- for SID)

Can I register for SID Admission Process offline?

No, registration is to be done online. The link to register is given on our website www.sid.edu.in

How can I pay for the SID Admission registration fees? (online /offline)?

For registration visit our website www.sid.edu.in   After registration, the applicant has to pay Rs.3250 via online transaction.

Is the elementary drawing exam certificate mandatory for the Admission Procedure at SID?

Elementary drawing exam certificate is not mandatory for applying for Admission at SID.

What will the SID Admission Process based on?

Are there any coaching classes/ preparatory classes guiding candidates to appear for SID Admission Process?

SID does not promote or is aware about any coaching classes/preparatory classes.

If foundation programme / diploma is done from some other institute can one get direct admission to second year at SID?

SID does not have any provision for direct admission to second year.

What is the admission procedure for International students?

All the admissions for international Students are handled only through Symbiosis Centre for International Education (SCIE). I have given wrong email ID during registration; how do I get it corrected?

When will I get the admit card?

The admit card will be available on our website. You will have to download & keep a hard copy or soft copy ready. It is compulsory to display your admit card as a proof of identity.

When will the result be declared?

The first merit list will be displayed on our website.

 

Portfolio Review & Personal Interaction

 

Where do I upload my Portfolio?

The portfolio upload link will be available on our website after Personal Interaction slot is booked by you.

How will you distinguish between self-made &ready-made portfolio?

For an experienced faculty, it is not very difficult to distinguish work which is self-made or ready-made. During the PI round, you will be asked questions based on your portfolio. If any unfair means are observed, your candidature will stand cancelled.

What should my Portfolio include?

Your digital portfolio should be a compilation of your best works showcasing your skills, passion and interest in a variety of areas and techniques. Do make sure to include the work you are proud of. Try to be different and include unique and interesting things.

Will I be asked to make or draw/sketch during my Personal Interaction round?

You can be asked to. You should have basic stationery including pen, paper, and pencils available with you during your PI session.

How will I book the slot for Personal Interaction?

The link will be available on our website.

I have a handmade portfolio. Can I show my portfolio during PI round?

You will have to click pictures of best work, compile it in a PPT and upload the PDF format on the given link. You cannot show your portfolio during PI as it is compulsory to upload it before your slot for interaction.

How will I join the Personal Interaction?

You will be intimated about the same through email on the email address shared during registration.

 

B.Des Programme and Specializations

 

Is this a Degree Programme? What is the duration?

Bachelor of Design (B.Des) is a 4-year full time degree Programme.

Is this degree recognized out of India?

B.Des degree is awarded by Symbiosis International (Deemed University), which is established under Section 3 of UGC act 1956 by notification No. F.9-12/2001-U3 Government of India and hence it is a recognized degree worldwide.

What are the disciplines and specializations offered under B. Des programme?

SID offers B.Des Programme in four disciplines and eight specializations. To know in detail about each specialization, visit http://sid.edu.in/index.php/programmes/b-design

Is this degree recognized by UGC?

B.Des degree is recognized by UGC and the degree nomenclature is included in Section 22 of UGC.

Is there any PG course offered by SID?

SID presently offers only UG courses in design.

Does SID offer any short term / distance courses?

There is no short term / distance course offered by SID. SID presently offers only full time Under- Graduate degree courses.

Do you offer degree in Interior Design?

Yes. We are offering specialization in Interior Space Design under Industrial Design discipline since the year 2013.

 

Eligibility for Admissions

 

Is there any age limit for taking admission to SID?

There is no age limit for taking admission to SID.

What are the eligibility criteria?

Passed Standard XII (10+2) or equivalent examination from any recognized Board or 10+3 diploma approved by State Board of technical Education with a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent grade (45% marks or equivalent grade for Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribes).

Is it necessary to have 10+2 in Science stream for Industrial Design?

A candidate from any stream having completed or appeared for 10+2 can apply for any specialization in design at SID

Will my 12th Std result impact my admission at SID?

Yes. If you do not clear the basic eligibility for the programme, your admission cannot be confirmed. Eligibility criteria are mentioned in detail on http://sid.edu.in/index.php/programmes/eligibility

Are there any changes for student intake this year?

No. the students intake is the same as mentioned on http://sid.edu.in/index.php/programmes/student-intake

 

Accommodation/ Transportation/ Loan and other Facilities

 

Is there a collaboration of Symbiosis for education loan with any bank?

Symbiosis has collaboration with IDBI Bank and Bank of India for Education Loan.

Is the hostel facility available?

Yes, SID has hostel facility at Viman Nagar within a radius of 1 km from the campus.

What will be the annual programme fees?

Can I pay the fees in Installments?

The Academic Fees can be paid in two installments.

Internationalization or Study Abroad Opportunities

 

SID has tie ups with which International Universities?

  • Ontario International Network, which gives access to several universities in Ontario, Canada


In which year are Semester Exchange opportunities available to students?

Usually in the 3rd or 4th year

How are the students selected for the exchange program?

There will be central selection process where interviews are conducted. If you clear that, you can apply to the University.

What about SID exam/result after semester abroad?

Courses of students selected for exchange are mapped with those of the host university. The students’ scores at the host university are reflected in SID results.

What would be the cost/ expenses of semester exchange program?

Usually the cost ranges between 3 lakhs to 7 lakhs (INR).

If you are selected for a Semester Exchange or Fee Waiver programme, only living travel expenses and no tuition fees are to be borne by you.

If you are selected for Semester Abroad, you have to bear the tuition fees as well as living expenses.

 

Internships/ Placements

 

Do you offer placement after B. Des?

Design is primarily learned by doing and practicing. SID believes in imparting skills and thinking abilities to its students and build an impressive portfolio. Through the SID Placement Cell, students are assisted in seeking internship during the final semester for degree project as well as for summer internships. The SID placement cell assists students to find suitable employment based on rules and regulations for placement at SID.
